"In 1966, International Print Biennial was established in Krakow. Quite unexpectedly, our city became the place where the mutually inspiring artistic ideas reunited. The ideas rising above any divides and partitions: ideas that were coined with respect of tradition and heritage brought by Europe's nations."
Prof. Witold Skulicz
This international graphics "meeting" in Cracow was a kind of window to the world for Polish artists as well as for artists from the Central and Eastern Europe and, in an unprecedented way, facilitated infiltration from the West of artistic concepts totally unknown at the time to the eastern block. The initiative was received openly and with enthusiasm by the international arts circles and promptly became part of the world net of culture projects.
"Now, while we unite, we would like to chase away the demons of the past and initiate a new era proposing the only solution for continued existence of our world: cohabitation in peace and love.
In October 2001, a project related to International Print Triennial in Krakow developed: Eurografik 2003/2005 - European Culture Integration Bridge. Together with a group of exceptional and deeply committed people from Kiyv, Moscow, and numerous other cities, we are beginning to employ our idea of lasting understanding with the exhibition in the Lavra Gallery in Kiyv.
There you will find the spirit of reconciliation and love for our world and our heritage shared by the artists of the whole continent. Give this spirit a chance!"
Professor Witold Skulicz, an excerpt from the Introduction to the Catalogue of the exhibition "Eurografik 2003/2005. European Culture Integration Bridge"
With reference to the 40-year tradition of the International Print Triennial in Cracow, which, from the very beginning had freedom in presenting whatever appeared on the European arts arena for the past decades, we would like to remind you that the so-often-cited now ideas of integration and unification have already been implemented in Cracow with the joined effort of thousands of artists - from the east and the west of Europe - who have participated in the, so to say, artistic confrontations offered by the cyclic print exhibitions.
Bearing in mind all the above, we initiated - in Europe with no divisions, at the beginning of the 21 st century - a project named "Eurografik 2003/2005. European Culture Integration Bridge", which refers to the history of the Triennial and focuses on the confrontation of diverse artistic tendencies and their mutual dialogue, as well as on the exchange of national artistic traditions.
The project Eurografik 2003/2005 - European Culture Integration Bridge presents works by artists from Eastern, Central and Western Europe invited by the General Curator or by National Curators.
And so originated the exhibition, whose ceremonial opening was held on November 19, 2003 in Kiev. The exhibition will then pass on to the "Manez Gallery" in Moscow, and afterwards it will be presented in several cities of the western Europe. In this way successive symbolic spans will be built, thus developing the inter-cultural dialogue and unifying Europe on this plane as well.
The Project Eurografik is being implemented in cooperation between the International Print Triennial and the Municipal Office in Cracow as well as the partners from the cities where the exhibition is being presented.
